Junior Cycle Information Meetings

21st May 2013 | News

The DES, along with NPC (Primary), is organising information meetings regarding recent
changes to the Junior Cycle programme for parents of pupils who have just
transitioned or will be transitioning to post primary schools over the coming
years.

TRANSITION FROM PRIMARY TO POST PRIMARY INCLUDING IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON THE RECENT CHANGES TO THE JUNIOR CYCLE PROGRAMME AND WHAT IT WILL MEAN FOR YOUR CHILD

Every year more than 50,000 children in Ireland move from primary to post primary education. But how can you as a parent best support your child through this transition?

Many of the answers will come in an upcoming FREE training seminar which is aimed at parents whose child is coming up to 5th or 6th class or has just moved from primary to post primary school. Click on the link below for the dates and venues of the meetings.

The two-hour session will explore issues such as: choosing a school for your child, preparing your child for post primary school, school policies, home school communication and much more!

Officials from the Department of Education and Skills will also give an overview of the new Junior Cycle that will be implemented in schools on a phased basis from September 2014.  The Department wants to give parents an opportunity to hear about the new Junior Cycle and to find out about how it will work in practice.  The Department also wants to hear parents’ views on the new Junior Cycle.

The new Junior Cycle plans amount to the most radical shake-up of the Junior Cycle programme since the ending of the Intermediate Certificate and Group Certificate examinations in 1991.

The new approach will see students rather than examinations at the centre of the new approach to assessment.

Parents will benefit by knowing much more about their children’s achievements over the three years of junior cycle than they could ever find out from a State Examination certificate at the end of Junior Certificate.

All parents of primary school children are welcome to attend — there’s no harm in thinking ahead!
