CPSMA welcome measures to tackle educational disadvantage

CPSMA welcome the recent announcement by Minister for Education, Norma Foley T.D., regarding measures to tackle educational disadvantage. DEIS Urban Band 1 primary schools will benefit from a one-point reduction in the staffing schedule. Furthermore, increased funding for the School Completion Programme and the extension of this programme will provide further supports for the valuable work undertaken by SCP teams to support vulnerable learners and those at risk of education disadvantage.

CPSMA General Secretary, Seamus Mulconry, said “Minister Foley’s announcement is a welcome step towards levelling the playing field for those most at risk of educational disadvantage. The decision to include School Completion Programmes in this round of funding clearly demonstrates the support provided by these projects to our most vulnerable pupils. CPSMA urge the Minister to extend these provision to include all DEIS schools.”
